Welcome to Starbuckk.NET. Our goal here is to bring back shareware in it's true original form. What does that mean? Well. The original definition of shareware has the following aspects:
  • Full basic functionality.
  • Payment to the creator encouraged but not required.
  • Enhancements to registered users encouraged payment but basic functionality and usability exists in non-paid version.
The reality is that most software being represented today as "shareware" is really demoware. Either it ceases to function after a limited trial period, or critical functionality is disabled. It is this distinction that makes the critical difference. Once this time limit is imposed, the software is no longer truly shareware. It is a demo program. Sadly, distributors such as CNET.COM and SNAPFILES.COM, along with the once respected Association of Shareware Professionals, have bought into this Ferengi-style mislabeling of products.
The reason for this mislabeling is clear: the shareware label has marketing value over and above demo software. Because shareware used to be a respectable way of delivering software that worked well for both authors and users, it developed a strong market value.
Starbuckk.NET will be my own avenue for distribution of my own creations that will be shareware in its pure original form. In addition, I will as time goes by, find links to other packages that have kept the true spirit of shareware.
You can help by sending me your references as well. If you know of a good package that is shareware in its true form, please drop me a line. Thank you and welcome to Starbuckk.NET!
